Raising Strong Children
Original Air Date: November 23, 2007
A friend of Dr. Robin recently passed along a famous quote by Fredrick Douglass: "It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." Dr. Robin says the quote rings true because many of the people she encounters who are struggling in life can trace their troubles to their childhood. "If you want your kids to grow up and have a great adult life, how do you think they're going to do it if you're not giving them the foundation in childhood?" Dr. Robin asks. Even if you're not a parent, Dr. Robin says it's your responsibility to help build a strong generation of young people. "You could do something right now to start helping build the character of the children you are around," she says. Teach your nieces and nephews right from wrong, show the children of friends or the young people at your place of worship how to love and respect one another. "It is easier to build strong, resilient, powerful, compassionate, well-balanced children than it is to repair a broken man or broken woman," Dr. Robin says. Related Links
