How often do you count your blessings? Do you take the small but important things in life for granted? Journalist Deborah Norville says by acknowledging all the things you are thankful for on a daily basis, you will notice a positive impact on your life. Dr. Oz talks with Deborah, host of Inside Edition, about her theory on gratitude and her book Thank You Power: Making the Science of Gratitude Work for You.

In Thank You Power, Deborah takes a closer look at the role gratitude plays in recovering from stress, loss and hardship. "[The research] is pretty unarguable that people who do stop and take note of what is right in their life are more active, healthier [and] are more resilient in times of stress," she says.

For more than a year, Deborah says she has been keeping a daily gratitude journal, in which she jots down what she's thankful for—even mundane, everyday tasks. "There is a comfort in rituals, and rituals provide a framework for stability when you are trying to find answers," she says.

While Deborah says anyone can benefit from her book and keeping a gratitude journal, some may actually find it a life-changing resource. "I think someone who is searching, who feels they don't have all of life's answers, is the person who might reach out for [this book]," she says.
