The psychological thriller Awake offers an interesting commentary on an uncommon but very scary potential complication that can occur during heart surgery. The story focuses on a man who suffers "anesthetic awareness" during open heart surgery, which renders him awake and aware, but paralyzed and unable to tell his doctors.
