An Inner Path to God and Your Soul
Original Air Date: August 30, 2007
Spiritual guru Caroline Myss believes that by getting in touch with your soul, you can lead a deeper, more joyous life. She talks with Dr. Oz about the fear of humiliation and the power of prayer. The first step toward the maturation of your soul is mastering the fear of humiliation, which Caroline says is not an easy thing to do. "Most people are fully controlled by the fear of being humiliated," she says. You need to realize how much that rules you and begin to understand the power of what it is to be humble, she says. "In being humble, you then can close your eyes and ask, 'For what reason have I been born?,'" Caroline says. "Then follow that guidance without first saying, 'But what will other people think? But what if I fail?'" For Caroline, prayer is more than what you memorized in church—she says it's a method of removing yourself from your five senses. She suggests this prayer: "Let nothing, dear Lord, disturb the silence of this moment. Let nothing disturb my focus as I enter into the truth that this day of my life will never come again. How shall I live my life this day? Shall I live it with joy or sorrow? This day will never come again. Shall I live it in service? Shall I live it in gratitude?" When you separate yourself from your senses, you're fully present, Caroline says. "Prayer isn't just about petition," she says. "It's more about inner tranquility and a reminder of, 'What are my values? What nurtures me? Where is my sense of truth?' The soul is a vessel of truth, not accumulation. That's how one prays."
