Faith Healing
Original Air Date: December 1, 2006
It's one of the most controversial arguments in medicine—does prayer play a role in the body's ability to heal, or is it just wishful thinking? Can science and religion coexist when it comes to your health? Dr. Oz talks to Dr. Richard Sloan, professor of behavioral medicine at Columbia University, about the role that faith may or may not play in your overall well-being.
Dr. Oz also talks to Dr. Sloan about his book, Blind Faith. In the book, Dr. Sloan disputes the claim that religious activity promotes health, and says the evidence for a link between religion and medicine simply doesn't hold up. He argues that attempts to link religion and medicine can actually cause harm by giving patients false hope, and says religious practices have no place in the medical world.
