Toxic-Free Living on a Budget
Original Air Date: March 16, 2007
Deirdre Imus is a regular on her husband's popular radio show Imus in the Morning, but her passion is keeping kids healthy and preventing childhood illnesses, especially pediatric cancer. Jean talks with Deirdre about reducing the amount of toxins and chemicals on your dinner plate and in your home without breaking the bank.As the founder of The Deirdre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology and The Imus Cattle Ranch for Kids with Cancer, Deirdre says she wants to help kids affected by childhood illness. "Our mission is to identify, control and ultimately prevent environmental factors that may cause adult and especially children's cancer and all other health problems with our children," she says. In addition, Deirdre has made it her mission to educate people about toxins found in foods and chemical-laden cleaning and personal care products, saying both are important steps toward preventing illnesses in children and adults. She has developed a line of toxic-free cleaning products and is the author of Greening Your Cleaning, the first book in a series called Green This! While buying chemical-free products and organic foods sounds like an expensive endeavor to some, Deirdre says there are small ways you can reduce exposure to toxins without going over your budget.
