  Oprah and Diane Downs Back in 1988, Oprah had an exclusive interview with Diane Downs, a mother convicted of shooting her three children—killing one. She still stands in defense of her story: that it was not her but a shaggy-haired stranger on a dark country road that shot her children. During testimony when her daughter, Christie, was asked who shot her, she replied, "Mommy." Diane was sentenced to life in prison plus 65 years.
