'One Unknown' by Gill Hicks
From The Publisher:
Gill Hicks was on her way to work on a Piccadilly Line tube train on July 7, 2005, when a terrorist bomb exploded in the carriage in which she was traveling. Despite the fact she had been standing only feet away from the bomber, she survived the blast, but her injuries were so severe both her legs were amputated, and she was not expected to live.

The last person to be pulled alive from the carriage, in which 26 people lost their lives, Gill suffered cardiac arrest three times on the way to the hospital and doctors feared she might suffer brain damage due to lack of oxygen. She was admitted to St Thomas's hospital, identified only as "One Unknown, estimated female, 1960" on her hospital wristband.

In this powerful and moving account Gill recalls the events of July 7th, and her life since, from facing the very real prospect that she might die alone in the carriage and her subsequent fight to live, to coming to terms with losing her legs and learning to walk again.
