Russell Crowe's Favorite Books
By Studs Terkel, Hermann Hesse and moreFrom the show Russell Crowe and Oprah Show Follow-Ups
As an actor, musician, rancher and dad-to-be, it would seem Russell Crowe would have little time for books. But Russell is a voracious reader who is continuously recommending good books! Here are the novels he shared with Oprah:
Hard Timesby Studs Terkel "This is I think a very interesting book that Americans definitely should read."
Siddhartha by Hermannn Hesse "When I'm on the set with young actors—and sometimes you meet people in life who you feel they are a little confused—and they want to be re-centered, there are two books that I always recommend. One of them is Siddhartha..."
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho "...and the other is The Alchemist. I've used them in other situations as well when teenage sons or daughters of friends of mine have a question or two. They are very basic, rich, philosophical allegories. I always recommend they take the afternoon off and just read it in one hit."
The Magus by John Fowles "I've read this book about seven times and I have no idea what it's about. But it really gets my imagination going and there's some dirty bits—that's always good for a cold Saturday night."
Dirt Musicby Tim Winton "It's a situation where a man has lost his family, and his family also played in a band with him, so the music has gone out of his life, literally and metaphorically. The story will take you away, put you in a completely different place. It examines depth of commitment and love." |
