Q: I'm a 46-year-old woman with diabetes and am taking 300 mg of alpha lipoic acid. Any recent news I should know?

A: Keep taking alpha lipoic acid (400 mg) and add 1500 mg l-carnitine and 200 mg a day of Nature Made coenzyme q 10 (it's the only one we know that actually has the Q10 in it). These have been shown to increase insulin sensitivity—as has cinnamon (in the form of 1/2 teaspoon a day, not in the form of that fat bomb of a bun that you can get at the mall).
