Q: Do you have to use mineral oil to clean earwax, or is there an alternative to oil?

A. Hope you haven't got your eye on the WD-40 or Quaker State. We're not sure of other oils that break up the sticky wax, so we'd say you ought to stick with mineral oil—Johnson's baby oil is just that. It's liquid at room temperature and after sitting for a while in your ear, it works by dislodging the wax and then draining it when you tilt your ear to the other side.
