Q. I have recently got dry hands and what looks almost like fungus on my fingers—dry flaky skin. What kind of cream can I use to stop this from happening?
A. If your hands are flaking faster than the Buffalo sky in January, it could mean one of many things. If it's eczema or dry skin, the most likely cause, you can usually treat it successfully with petroleum jelly like Vaseline. But it could also be caused by a fungus, and the treatment would depend on what type of fungus it is. Your best course of action? Make an appointment with a dermatologist, try the petroleum jelly, and if it doesn't clear up with that, you'll be all set with someone who will literally be able to read your palms—and then clear them up.
