Q: After each of my three weekly racquetball matches I drink a mixture that is 2 1/3 cups of carrot juice and 2/3 cup of red (or black) seedless grapes. Should I be concerned about getting too much beta-carotene?
A: With that concoction, maybe you should be more concerned about getting too many stares from your racquetball partners. Seriously, though, it appears beta-carotene from food is handled differently than beta-carotene from supplements. Why that is, we don't know. If you can switch to tomato juice or cranberry juice or even apple juice, that might seem better, but right now, there's no data that indicate that for sure.
